Procedures for preparing and submitting the master's thesis

Dear Students,
Regarding the procedures for preparing a Master's Thesis, we would like to draw your attention to the following points:
Right to supervise Master's Theses
All instructors in the MSc program are eligible to supervise master’s theses, provided they hold a doctoral degree. By decision of the competent body of the Postgraduate Program (Curriculum Committee), the supervision of theses may also be assigned to members of the teaching staff, EEP, and EDI of the School of EMFE, who do not have a teaching role in the Postgraduate Program (FEK 4957/21.07.2022).

The declaration of commencement of the Master’s Thesis must be made at least six months prior to its submission. During registration, the postgraduate student is required to submit electronically to the email pgradsemfe@mail.ntua.gr the master’s thesis assignment form, which includes the proposed title and the proposed supervisor.

Upon completion of the Master’s Thesis, it is submitted to the Secretariat of the Postgraduate Studies Program request for the appointment of a three-member Examination Committee, which includes the supervising instructor and two other members of the teaching staff of the Postgraduate Program or other members of the teaching staff or researchers of grades A, B, or C, who hold a doctoral degree. The members of the Examination Committee must have the same or a related scientific specialty as the subject area of the Postgraduate Program. At the supervisor’s suggestion, the postgraduate student may be assisted in the preparation of their Master’s Thesis by doctors, doctoral candidates or postgraduate students and other scientific associates of the NTUA or visiting lecturers from outside the NTUA. It is also possible for technical staff to participate in a supporting role for laboratory support of Master’s Theses, where required.

After the successful presentation of the master’s thesis, a special M.E. Grading Form is completed (sent by the Secretariat) is completed by the supervising professor with the thesis grade, signed by all members of the Three-Member Examination Committee, and submitted immediately to the Secretariat of the Postgraduate Program under the responsibility of the supervising professor. The grade for the Master’s Thesis is calculated as the average of the grades given by the three examiners on a scale of 1-10 and rounded to the nearest half point, with a minimum passing grade of 5.5 (five and 50%).
Following the above procedure and in order for the Master’s Degrees to be issued, interested students should contact the NTUA Central Library (Ms. A. Kitta, 210-7724017, http://lib.ntua.gr/), and follow the procedure they will be given in order to upload their thesis to the platform they will be directed to. The Secretariat will forward the certificates they receive from the library, as well as their thesis in pdf format, electronically.
